Phase-4 | Capstone

In this phase, I first started to explore more similar ideas for the shoe rack and to maintain the essence of the onion in it also. This was the main task that I learned in this process and got to know that making a design like that its visual language must match the onion. like I was making straight lines with sharp corners and rectangular shapes which were not even in the onion. To improve them I learned new ways of solving and doing 5 levels of improvements in the final design and get everything correct. This helped in finding every aspect I needed to achieve in 5 steps and get them perfectly.

So by this, I finalised the design of the shoe rack. But my curiosity to achieve better results and I rejected to continue working on the shoe rack and shifted on making the door and started exploring it. In between, I started to think about making the door curved instead of the flat rectangle and by this, I started making the Main Entrance Gate. The explorations of the gate started to look exactly like an onion so I rejected that also and again came back to explore the door that's showing layers and thought to give the essence with the colours.

After the crit feedback, I changed my design opportunity and now I was finally making a 3D door-like structure (as a decor item) that will talk about the onion, its layers and protection.

So I made it with my selected idea for the door and just converted it as home decor/showpiece/ evil eye warder which can be kept in the entrance of the house or in the drawing-room which conveys the message of protection from negative evil spirits.

In this process, I made everything with the sun board because it was the only possible thing by which I could make it and fixed the mechanism of the door because now I converted it to a decor item so fixing it would be the best I thought and also I didn't have enough materials to make it.

My personal reflection

In this phase, I was actually stopped thinking of the outcome and was so exciting and again lost track in exploring the ideas of my design opportunities that led me to lack of time for making the outcome and do the needed part to do in the process. I actually found my new interest in these types of explorations and my mind was becoming so much invaluable information about the process of designing. I know I was not able to achieve better results but the level of knowledge I gained in this phase was so much I couldn't tell and it actually widened my thinking power and opened all my blocked gates in my mind. Although my lack of visual skills did affect me in showing what I am actually thinking I was able to achieve that also a little bit in this phase. This phase actually gave me the feeling of professionalism, curiosity, frustration and exited.
