Threads

Every pattern and the Visual Elements and Principles of the form and its usage in other art or used as art, effect in product design, its growth stage, etc. everything is different and unique and that thing can nobody copies which inspires me as a designer to go through every minute detail, we might don't know but what gives what results in nobody knows. Each stage has its own visuals and gives so many design ideas from each step that's why I covered every aspect that would help me further.

Later, I realised the threads I am working on are having more threads in themselves, so just now focused on the visual elements thread and got so many ideas from that only by dividing them into the threads. I chose these topics as my threads because I thought its visual elements themselves had a lot of potentials to give me many relevant ideations.

While exploring my threads, I used divergent thinking by making 1 idea and getting at least 12 explorations based on that idea only. This gave me a lot of ideas to discover and took them forward. While exploring them, I spent a lot of time exploring the ideas of lines and lost track to explore other threads also. Then I made a few in each so that I have some knowledge of them also.

From these threads, I selected those explorations that were giving more appropriate essence of onion but in abstract form and also showing the structure of layers. The one's which I rejected were not making a connection with the proper essence actually those were my mindless explorations.

Then, in the crit presentation, I got a lot of feedback and by that, I explored a new thread, i.e., Layers to further explore the context. I made new explorations and 3D forms also. Then I went back to find the geometry and symbolism of the onion to get the associations attached with an onion.

By all the feedback, I started to forget all the fear of presenting my work and presented even less and focused more on thinking and making. This crit actually helps to understand where I was standing and what I was lacking and brought me back to the track. Though in this process I couldn't explore the non-material aspects of the onion instead I was unknowingly first exploring more on the material components and so tutors let me first get the material and then I must start with exploring non-material aspects. I also realised that I missed understanding the geometry of the onion and did wrong explorations of its geometry in the thread. I also didn't associate any feelings or emotional aspects means more primary research I missed in phase 2 and the threads helped me to improve those connections also in my study.

Reflection

I never thought that I could even do this level of explorations by the divergent thinking and understood its importance. I made more connections of my secondary research with my ideations. First I was making mindless ideations or abstractions of onion but actually, I had to draw those ideas that had the essence of onion and showed its nature. By this process, I understood what I actually needed to keep in mind, i.e., the essence of onion. I realised the main aspect, i.e., layering in the onion that I was missing and didn't explore. Later I started exploring Layers, which helped me to move forward and get more amazing ideas.
