To start with phase-2, everyone had to first discuss a broader perspective process planner and this what my group discussed and made.

But this doesn't actually become like a process map but it just displayed things to include in the process map. To make the process map I made it on my own with my understanding and style. First I included 2 lists and then made the process map.

That's how I made my initial process map but in the feedback, ma'am told me that it is a good way to start with but I must also mention how much time I will use and recheck the steps and chronologically write them as some steps were like interchanged. So now it is a lot better.

Day 1

So starting with the Form Study, I first try to identify the anatomy of onions and making a lot of detailed drawings of them. I also did many little experiments with onions to get many of its details.

By all these explorations today I found that there are three types of the layer in onion and identified its minute parts and found their actual names from secondary research like stem, bulb, roots, apex and auxiliary bud, inflorescence (umbel) and its reproductive parts.

After identifying its parts I made detailed drawings for every part to understand the pattern on it, finding its colour and understanding its form. It was difficult to do it but got a good amount of observations. I am still making more drawings to get the essence of it.

There are some more observations I found out while experimenting. I had put the onion in water and covered it with a lid just after few hours the colour of the water started to change to pink and found the layer of pigments formed on the container's wall. Then after 10 days, I found that the outer was completely separated from the onion and the colour becomes darker and pigments on the wall and in the water were increased. While studying its scientific attributes that the onion has sulfur-rich oil and then I realised that the change in colour and the layer of oil floating in the water.

After all these things later I also thought in my home my mom uses a lot of different tools to chop the onions so I decided to find out and click their photos.

Then I search if the Onions being used to make art and was true. There were many unique and shocking and was interesting to get to know them even in history they were being made as art pieces.

Day 2

On this day I basically found that there were 7 types of onions and named them and to found their uses and little amount of information. Then I did slice and dice to get a vast amount of underwear and also know the aspects which I would carry forward.

Then I identified the scientific aspects related to the onion. The common thing I understood was that the onion contains sulfur which helps the enzymes to produce chemicals and we start to cry and smell a bad odour while chopping it. Then I also got to know why the colour of onion changes after frying in oil.

Day 3

Today I just found its cultivation steps that helped in the growth and the changes in its growth stages. I also find the information on what soil, climate, season it grows, how sowing planting, irrigation and harvesting does and the crops weed and pests care, etc.

Day 4

Today I found the information on the historical evidence and the origin of the onion. It was believed that it was first found 5500 years ago in Asia. Its first visual reference was found in Egyptian civilization. Then later it spread throughout the world. Before harvesting it was consumed wild with hunters and gatherers. Later spread through trades and pilgrimage.

Day 5

Today I researched and found the importance of onion in Egyptian culture and Indian culture. In Egypt, it was used as the funeral offerings considered it will bring death to life. In Hindu culture is a rajasic and tamasic food that is restricted to eat because it increases anger, anxiety, ignorance and sexuality and also increases heat in the body which distracts us from meditation. Second, its smell disturbs the Sadhus to focus on their meditation due to the fol smell of onion from other's mouth. I Jainism, it is said that uprooting the onion involves violence to many worms.

Day 6

Today I focused on finding the effect on the economy, growth and marketing of India and the world by the onions. India is the second-largest producer of onions which is 19% of the global onion production which costs Rs.397.04 per quintal which includes land inputs, labour inputs and capital inputs. The average net returns obtained by onion growers amounted to Rs.49800.41 per hectare with gross returns of Rs. 152437.45 per hectare. The average yield per hectare onion production 258.50 quintals. Then comes the cost of production onion per quintal Rs.397.04 and net profit per quintal Rs.192.66. The Cost-Benefit Ratio comes to about 1:1.48.

Day 7

Now the time is for the crit for which I made inferences but they seem very less and in the feedback, I was told to find more. Then I was told to work on the detailed drawings. To understand more better I also concluded at the end.

Reflection

This project gives me an epic way of doing the detailed study of any object by making the process map and exploring my own way to do things. I did primary research on my subject by experimenting and observing by cutting, growing, etc. and making a detailed drawing. Then I did secondary research to get a detailed study of its scientific, cultivation, history, socio-culture and economic aspects and try to find the context. After doing that I realised that I gathered an ample amount of secondary information but didn't focus on the feelings associated with my subject.
